Savannah Guthrie from TODAY received major backlash after claiming that she was COMPLETELY RIGHT to ignore tennis legend Roger Federer.

Savannah Guthrie, a beloved host on *The Today Show*, recently found herself in an unexpected but lighthearted moment of public scrutiny

after tennis legend Roger Federer sent a playful video message during a Friday broadcast.

The video, which was part of a segment introducing Federer’s new Super Bowl commercial with the shoe brand On, caught Savannah by surprise.

The tennis icon joked that she might be “avoiding” him, sparking a humorous exchange that left viewers laughing and led Guthrie to promise she’d make amends.

The moment began with Carson Daly teasing Savannah by saying that Federer had sent a special message just for her.

The camera then cut to Roger, who appeared on screen with a friendly smile and a cheeky remark.

“Hi Savannah, I hope you’re doing well. It’s a long time, we haven’t seen each other. Are you avoiding me ever so slightly? I’m not sure,” Roger playfully questioned, causing Savannah to look genuinely shocked. With her mouth hanging open, it was clear she hadn’t expected this comment from her longtime friend.

Federer continued with a more serious note, discussing his upcoming commercial, which features a partnership with Sesame Street’s iconic character, Elmo. He then ended the message with an invitation for Savannah to visit him in Switzerland. “I really hope you like it. You’re the first to see it, and come to Switzerland. See you soon, bye Savannah,” he said before the clip ended.

Savannah, who seemed a bit embarrassed by the playful accusation, quickly responded once the clip finished. “Sorry, I’m doing my airline ticket right now,” she said, implying that she would make plans to visit Roger in Switzerland as he requested. She then laughed off the situation and promised to make things right with her tennis friend.

The playful back-and-forth didn’t stop there. Carson Daly, always quick with a joke, quipped, “Wouldn’t it be great if that was just a Super Bowl ad?” referring to Roger’s message. The commercial then premiered on *The Today Show*, and Savannah quickly congratulated Federer. “Good job, Rog. See you in Switzerland,” she said, maintaining her signature warmth and humor.

Carson, ever the one to stir the pot, then asked Savannah if she planned to bring her husband, Michael Feldman, along for the trip to Switzerland. Savannah’s response was both humorous and heartfelt. “Of course. Rog likes Mike better than he likes me, like most of you,” she joked, showcasing the camaraderie and easygoing nature of her relationship with Federer.

Savannah and Roger Federer’s friendship has been well-documented over the years, and their rapport was evident in the exchange. Savannah is often seen cheering Federer on during his tennis matches, and she has shared many personal moments with him over the years. This friendly relationship has extended to her family as well. Savannah has posted photos on Instagram of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, meeting Roger in person. “And mom got to meet him too,” Savannah captioned one of the photos, showing just how much her family values their connection with the tennis star.

Savannah’s apology and the lighthearted nature of the entire interaction reflected the close-knit bond she shares with Federer. It’s clear that their relationship, which has spanned years, is built on mutual respect and affection. Despite the playful jab about “avoiding” him, it’s evident that their friendship remains as strong as ever.

Ultimately, what started as a fun moment on *The Today Show* ended up being a perfect example of the camaraderie that exists not just between Savannah and Roger, but also among the show’s co-hosts. The whole situation showcased the joy of friendships in the celebrity world—those that are built on genuine connections and moments of laughter, even if they involve a little playful teasing along the way.

As Savannah heads toward her promised trip to Switzerland, fans can look forward to more heartwarming moments and humorous exchanges between these two old friends. After all, in a world of high-profile relationships, it’s nice to see that genuine friendships can still shine through.
